Acceptance

John was sitting in his Dad’s living room watching a hologram of his Mother and the rest of the family on one of the families many adventures. This one, when they went to the Florida Keys and George, John’s Dad taught Jason and John how to scuba dive. John’s Mother Betty was always right there, doing everything with the family.

John was so absorbed with the scene, he didn’t notice his Father behind him until it was too late. He quickly turned off the hologram as soon as he noticed him move around the couch to sit down next to him.

“How long have you been standing there Dad?” “Long enough, son, to damn near have a heart attack. What on God’s green earth is going on?”

“Well, Dad before I explain I want you to tell me how you’re feeling?”

“Besides being scared out of my wits, watching my dead wife, and me and my kids at a resort in the keys, 20 some years ago, that had never been recorded, and my bones aching from standing longer than I should! I’m just dandy. How are you?”

“Sorry Dad, I didn’t mean for you to see that. Not till I explained everything, which is why I’m here. Dad, something happened to me yesterday that’s going to be even harder to believe than what you’ve just seen.”

“I was visited by an alien, well, not really an alien, but a hologram like you just saw of an alien from a planet billions of light years away. And, I spent most of the day, inside a ship, where he showed me how to create these holograms using this device on my wrist.”

“An alien and a ship, and you want me to believe you? Have you gone mad?”

“We haven’t talked lately about how sick you really are, Dad. I think you’ve been hiding from me just how bad it is?”

George did not reply but just stared at his son with a somber look of concealment.

“I know this may sound like a stupid question Dad, but please this is as serious as I have ever been. If you could take a pill and be completely healthy again, would you?”

“You’re right son, it is a stupid question.”

“Well, of course, I would. Do you think I want to meet your Mother that bad? I’m not in a hurry, and this pain does make me sometimes wish I was dead, but to have just one day without the pain would be a miracle to me.”

“Not one day Dad, I’m mean to feel like 30 again. Would that be cool?”

“Now I know you’re crazy. Why would you say something like that?”

John reached out his arm. He no longer had to press the duplicate button for the amorganon, his thought, and suddenly the bracelet popped out eager to be plucked from his wrist and placed on his Father’s.

John removed the bracelet and placed it on his Father’s arm.

George’s mouth and eyes opened wide and he looked as though he had seen a ghost.

“What just happened to me? Am I dreaming?”

“No, Dad you’re not dreaming, this is real.”

“I don’t feel a thing. No, I do feel something. Weightlessness, and a surge of energy, like nothing I’ve ever felt before. It’s as though I was reborn.”

George jumped to his feet and started running around the couch and jumping up and down. He suddenly realized he had run right through the couch and not around it.

“Whoa, what was that?” A few swats with his hand and he realized there was more to this. He must be dreaming.

“I’m a believer John. What is going on?”

“As I said, this alien being and this ship created this device and it turns your body into energy. You have no cumbersome bodily function. Your body and your mind are free, Dad.”

“So, do I have to keep this thing on? What happens when I take it off?”

“That’s the best part, Dad. When you remove the bracelet you will still be 65, but you will be free from all your diseases and ailments. It’s a healing machine as well as a converter of energy.”

“Can I keep it?” “As far as I can tell at this early stage, yes, you can keep it.”

“Adju, would you please introduce yourself to my Father, George Smith?.

Suddenly, Adju appeared and addresses George.

“It is a pleasure to meet you, George Smith!”

“Nothing could shock me any longer after what I have just been through. Now a man appears from out of nowhere. My pleasure, I’m sure Mr. Adju.”

“Is that true Adju, can my Father keep the bracelet?”

“You are… ascendant John you may do as you wish.”

“Alright Adju, you’ve convinced me. I accept your invitation to become Ascendant.”

“I am very pleased, John.”
